All children are unique, and so are their families. What suits one, may not necessarily suit another. Kowhai Kids now has all the options for families choosing childcare – we’re your one stop shop !
Kowhai Kids Educarers are carefully selected. We look for people who are warm, nurturing and friendly, and willing to do some training to develop their childcare skills. Kowhai Kids supports all Educarers to become First Aid trained and to complete their Family Day Care and Orientation Paper. Each month our Registered Early Childhood Teachers visit the children in the Educarers home to complete a comprehensive health and safety check.
In-Home Educare offers low ratios (children are in groups of four or less). Our teachers work with our Educarers to provide an Educational Programme for the children, based on Te Whaariki, New Zealand’s Early Childhood Education curriculum document. Your child’s milestones and learning journey is documented in their portfolio, just as you would expect in a centre.
Why choose In-home Educare?
In-home educare doesn’t have to work within resource consents and license hours, so offers more flexibility than a centre based option. Families have more choice with regard to what hours and days they need but are still able to access the 20 hours ECE subsidy. Winz subsidies may also be available to qualifying parents.
What can I expect from my child’s Educarer ?
Great communication is essential. Kowhai Kids is committed to providing excellent communication between our organisation, our educarers and our families.
Safety is paramount. Because the day can be less structured and more spontaneous, it will include trips to the park, beach, playgroup and so on. Kowhai Kids has a documented set of policies and practices for dealing with everything from nappy changing to sleeping, to excursions, and parents are encouraged to read these and offer feedback.
Children and educarers develop a deep attachment within the nurturing home environment. Children feel supported to explore their environment, to develop their social skills and language, to learn self management.
